On some computers and laptops, USB's do not appear under "My Computer". You can still access those files by using the following workaround:
"Open" Method
Try taking out then reinserting the USB first.
If this doesn't work, open the program associated with the file type you want to use. For example, if you want to open a Word document, open Microsoft Word by clicking the "Start" button on the bottom left of the screen, then "All Programs".
Find the menu which allows you to open a file. In Word, you can simply use the shortcut Ctrl-O (Cmd-O for Macs), or alternatively, click "File", then "Open".
In the box marked as 'File name', type D: or E: or F: (if the previous two do not work) and press enter. Your USB should now open and you should be able to access your files.
"Shortcut" Method
To access your USB, it is also possible to create a shortcut in your Student folder, which you will be able to use every time your USB is not shown.
On Year 8-9 laptops
Go to Desktop in My Computer.
Click "File" -> "New" -> "Shortcut"
In the window that appears, try typing "D:", "E:", "F:", etc... (without the parentheses) until the name of your USB is displayed, then click "Finish".
Note: If you frequently use several USB's at the same time, consider making a shortcut for all the different drives (i.e. D:, E:, F:, etc.)
You can now open the shortcut from the desktop.
